This home on the outskirts of Plymouth had huge potential, but the original layout felt small, dated and disconnected. The family wanted more space, better flow and a home that truly worked for modern living — not just a few tweaks, but a complete transformation. With a vision to double the size of the house and create a much brighter, more social layout, they approached Hobbs Home Building Co. to bring everything together.

We delivered a 130m² wrap-around single-storey extension together with a striking double-height front extension, completely reshaping the footprint of the home. As the structure expanded, the interior layout opened up into a huge open-plan lounge, kitchen and dining space — a central hub designed for everyday family life as much as entertaining. We also built in a plant room, utility room, cloakroom and a cosy snug, ensuring the home had both practical zones and warm, relaxed spaces.

The new entrance hall became a standout feature. With its double-height volume, natural light and generous landing above, it added a sense of scale and arrival the original house simply couldn’t offer. A separate lounge and dedicated cinema room were added to give the family more flexibility and defined spaces to unwind.

Upstairs, the entire first floor was reimagined. Four beautifully proportioned bedrooms were created, including a master suite with its own ensuite, plus a spacious family bathroom. Every room was designed to feel calm, comfortable and functional, with upgraded heating and insulation throughout to ensure the whole home felt warm and efficient — a dramatic improvement from the original property.

Alongside the extensions, the existing house underwent a full refurbishment. New plumbing, electrics, heating, flooring, windows, roofing, internal doors and joinery were installed, bringing the whole property up to a modern, premium standard. The result is a home that feels brand new from the inside out — brighter, warmer, more spacious and perfectly suited to contemporary family living.
