Plymstock Double Storey EXTENSION Project

This home in Plymstock already had planning for a double storey extension. But the layout still didn’t work. The kitchen was boxed in at the back. The rooms felt dark and cut off from the garden. As a result, the house felt smaller than it should. The family loved where they lived. They just needed the space to work better for them.

Opening Up the Space

We stepped in to bring the plans to life. First, we opened up the rear of the house. This created a full-width double storey extension. It also allowed the ground floor to become one open-plan space. Now, the kitchen, dining and living areas all flow together. Once the walls were removed and steels installed, the change was clear. The space felt bigger straight away. At the same time, large doors and glazing brought in more natural light. The house now opens directly onto the garden.

Adding a New Bedroom

Upstairs, we added a new bedroom above the kitchen. This helped balance the layout. It also gave the family more space as they grow. The new room looks out over the garden, so it feels light and calm.

Blending Old and New

Planning set the size of the extension. But the detail made the difference. We matched the brickwork to the existing house. We also upgraded insulation, heating and electrics. Because of this, the extension feels like part of the original home — not something added later

Managed from Start to Finish

We managed the full build from start to finish. This included foundations, structural work, roofing, windows and all internal finishes. We kept things simple and clear for the client. This helped the project run smoothly while they stayed in the house.

The Finished Result

The finished home feels completely different. It is brighter, more open and much easier to live in. The new kitchen, dining and living space is now the centre of the home. The extra bedroom also adds comfort and long-term value.
